New Delhi: Ever since the modern lifestyle has taken over the globe, proper sleep is hard to come by. In such a fast-paced world and life, even a few hours of sleep feels like a blessing.

People have also often begun to complain about insomnia, lack of sleep, sleep deprivation, disturbed sleep, etc. In fact, if a person is sleeping too much, that is also a sign that everything's not right.

However, this isn't how it should be. As per health and body requirements, proper sleep and a regular sleep cycle also hold major importance.

Most people resort to expensive medicines and therapy to cure their problems related to their sleep and sleep cycles, or lack thereof.

But, it's best to avoid medication and go the natural way even if it takes a little extra time, because that will avoid the risk of unnecessary side effects.

All you have to do is tweak your diet a little and try eating these foods before you hit the sheets.

We give you a list of five foods that will help you snooze.

Have a look!

1. Almonds:

A handful of almonds before bed and you'll be snoozing away before you know it. The drop-shaped nuts are rich in magnesium – a mineral which will help in steadying your heart rhythm.

2. Herbal teas:

Teas like chamomile tea and passionflower tea are associated with an increase of glycine, a chemical that relaxes nerves and muscles and acts like a mild sedative. The chemical act on your nervous system and make you drowsy.

3. Rice:

Have you ever felt droopy and drowsy after a rice meal? That's the high glycemic index talking. This increases the ratio of sleep-inducing tryptophan relative to other amino acids in the blood, allowing proportionately more to seep into the brain. Interestingly enough, Jasmine rice has been found to make you sleepy faster than normal rice.

4. Bananas:

Although they're considered to be high energy boosters, the magnesium and potassium in bananas serve as muscle and nerve relaxants. A good source of Vitamin B6, which is needed to make melatonin – a sleep-inducing hormone triggered by darkness – bananas make you sleep better.

5. Dark chocolate:

We love how dark chocolate makes it to every healthy list! It's good for the heart, good for diabetics, good for the skin and it also helps you sleep well. Dark chocolate contains serotonin, which relaxes your body and mind, thereby inducing sleep.
