Anti-CAA protests: Protests turn violent in several states

Several states in the country are witnessing violent protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019. On Thursday, several protesters were detained and a lot of traffic routes were diverted in Delhi to maintain law and order. As a result, massive traffic jams erupted across the capital and people were stuck for hours as traffic snarled on the roads.

Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests: 19 Delhi metro stations shut

In the wake of several planned protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), a total of 19 metro stations were closed on Thursday in the national capital and traffic was also adversely affected. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that the entry and exit gates of Rajiv Chowk, Janpath, Barakhamba, Jamia Millia Islamia, Jasola Vihar Shaheen Bagh, Munirka, Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Vishwavidyalaya, Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhawan, ITO, Pragati Maidan, Central Secretariat, Khan Market, Vasant Vihar and Mandi House were closed. The trains will not halt at these stations.

Citizenship Act doesn't affect any Indian; those guilty of violence won't be spared: Ravi Shankar Prasad

Prasad added that the Act applies to the aggrieved Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis living in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who have been tortured due to their faith in religion. He further added that those who came to India in large numbers will be provided with citizenship under the Act asking 'why is there such hue and cry over it'.
