Virat Kohli breaks AB de Villiers' record, becomes fastest to 7000 ODI runs

New Delhi: In-form batsman Virat Kohli on Sunday reached another career milestone at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The right-hander became the fastest to 7000 ODI runs in cricket history.

At the start of the 3rd ODI, Kohli needed just 19 runs to break AB de Villiers' record.

The South African got to the 7000-run mark in 166 innings, while Kohli go there in 161.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly (174), is third on that list.

The Delhi lad has hit back-to-back fifties in the first two ODIs of the ongoing series against Australia.

In the 1st ODI at Perth, Kohli was caught at mid-on for 91. His dismissal was seen as an act of selflessness by observers for trying to score quick runs despite being so close to a ton.

In the 2nd, he was run out for 59 while scampering back for a second run.
