New Delhi: Indian cricketers have been instructed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from visiting casinos during the ongoing Australian tour.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the team was informed about the board's decision as they took a bus ride from Brisbane to Melbourne.
The decision to prohibit players from going to casinos was taken by BCCI president Shashank Manohar and secretary Anurag Thakur.
Indian team's five-star hotel in Melbourne boasts of one of the most famous casinos of Australia.
Hence the BCCI does not want cricketers to meet the 'wrong people' or visit places that could raise speculation.
Bookies and match fixers often frequent casinos, team hotels and pubs in order to get friendly with cricketers.
The BCCI has adopted a proactive approach especially after the recent match fixing scandal that hit South African cricket during the Ram Slam T20 competition.
