Congress leader Manish Tewari on Saturday condemned the gang-raped of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal and said that the state government needs to walk the extra mile to make sure that the perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari on Saturday condemned the gang-raped of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal and said that the state government needs to walk the extra mile to make sure that the perpetrators of crime are brought to justice.

"They must walk the extra mile to see that the perpetrators of crime are brought to justice," said Tewari.

Earlier on Saturday, the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese strongly condemned the gang-rape of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal.

Delhi Catholic Archdiocese spokesperson Father Dominic described the incident as `shameful` saying that the victim was a religious person who had consecrated her life to god.

A 72-year-old nun was allegedly gang-raped at a convent school in Ranaghat area of West Bengal`s Nadia district on Saturday.

According to reports, around a dozen dacoits entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary and gang-raped the elderly nun.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condemned the incident and ordered a CID investigation into the matter.
