New Delhi: The Delhi Catholic Archdiocese on Saturday strongly condemned the gang-raped of a 72-year-old nun in West Bengal.

Delhi Catholic Archdiocese spokesperson Father Dominic described the incident as `shameful` saying that the victim was a religious person who had consecrated her life to god.

"It is a very shameful act. First of all to rape any women is a horrible and shameful act but this one becomes even worse because, firstly she is an old lady and on top of it she is a nun. She is a religious woman who has consecrated her life to god and all her life she has remained a virgin," Father Dominic said.

Earlier in the day, a 72-year-old nun was allegedly gang-raped at a convent school in Ranaghat area of West Bengal`s Nadia district.

According to reports, around a dozen dacoits entered the Convent of Jesus and Mary and gang-raped the elderly nun.
