Islamabad, Jan 22: Pakistan will "shortly" complete
its investigation on the involvement of Ajmal Amir Kasab in
the Mumbai attacks, the government said on Thursday.

"We are investigating the matter. The Federal
Investigation Agency and other agencies would shortly complete
their probe and to say anything firm, at this stage, would be
premature," Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Malik Amad
Khan told the National Assembly or lower house of parliament.

The investigation will ascertain Kasab`s involvement in
the Mumbai terror strikes, he said while replying to a query
during the Question Hour.

After weeks of denial, Pakistan recently acknowledged
that a preliminary probe had established that Kasab, the lone
terrorist arrested for the Mumbai attacks, is a Pakistani
national.

Khan told the House that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood
Qureshi and interior ministry chief Rehman Malik had, in a
recent briefing for foreign envoys, said that the information
provided by India on the Mumbai attacks is being examined.

Replying to another question, Khan said 32 Pakistani
nationals from Karachi are imprisoned in Indian jails. After
receiving information about such detentions, Pakistan seeks
consular access to ascertain the charges against the detainees
and then provides them legal aid.

Khan also said the number of Indian fishermen caught by
Pakistani security agencies is higher than the number of
Pakistani fishermen held by India.
