NHRC notice to Madhya Pradesh government in accident case

The NHRC has issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government over alleged police insensitivity and medical negligence towards a victim of a road accident in Bhopal.

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government over alleged police insensitivity and medical negligence towards a victim of a road accident in Bhopal.

The NHRC issued the notice to the state chief secretary, calling for a report in the matter within two weeks.

According to the commission, 22-year-old Vikas Prasad Soniya met with an accident on March 1 outside the secretariat in the state capital, but was left bleeding for 45 minutes on the roadside by police till Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan`s car convoy passed.

"Subsequently, when the victim was admitted in a hospital, no medical attention was given to him for 20 minutes, as per the hospital records," a commission statement said.

Taking cognizance of the case reported in the media, the NHRC observed that the contents of press reports raise serious issues of violation of right to life of a young man, insensitivity of police as well as medical negligence.
