World Heart Day: How to prevent heart diseases

New Delhi: Heart diseases also known as cardiovascular diseases have become the leading cause of deaths around the world.

There are some factors attached which you can't change such as family history, age or gender. But one can certainly prevent oneself from the risk of heart diseases by adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Here are some ways to prevent heart diseases:

Eat healthy diet: A healthy diet is very important for a healthy heart. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables help to reduce the risk of developing heart diseases. Include beans, other low-fat sources of protein in your diet for a healthy heart and try to avoid trans fat in your diet.

Exercise: One should exercise daily because it can reduce the risk of heart diseases. It also reduces the chances of developing other health problems. Try to exercise for at least 30 mins everyday.

Proper sleep: A proper sleep of 7-8 hours every day is essential because sleep deprivation can lead to obesity, high blood pressure, depression and heart attack. To get a proper sleep, one should stick to a regular 'bed time' and 'wake up' time each day.

Don't smoke: Cigarette smoking or using tobacco is not good for heart's health. If you want a healhty heart, then quit smoking immediately as it will reap you rewards no matter how long or how much you smoked.

Health check-up: Besides the above points, the most important thing is to go for regular health screenings - blood pressure, cholesterol levels, diabetes, etc for a healthy heart.
