New Delhi: The menstrual period is a trying time for every girl in the world. The cramps, the bleeding, the weakness – all of it takes a toll on them.

Menstruation is a monthly occurrence for girls who have hit puberty, which although ridiculed for all the symptoms, is actually a sign of good health, unless irregular or highly painful, in which case, it could indicate conditions like PCOD.

There is no specific way of dealing with the issue, except for using methods or tools to contain the bleeding, which could be according to preference, that is, by way of sanitary napkins, or tampons.

Even though, sanitary napkins have been deemed the safest, many girls nowadays are opting for tampons. Why? Probably because of its super soaking abilities and also because it stays fixed in one place, so that there's no fear of staining.

But did you know that wearing a tampon for too long could have drastic consequences, which could even result in death?

Yes, it's true! Leaving a tampon inside yourself for more than eight hours could make you extremely vulnerable to Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). This danger first came to light in 1980, where 814 cases of TSS were reported; 38 of which proved to be fatal.

The video below tells you about all the serious dangers that tampons make you succeptible to and why its important to change every few hours.
