Sufficient stock of swine flu medicines is available in the hospitals of Thane division, a senior health official has assured.

Thane: Sufficient stock of swine flu medicines is available in the hospitals of Thane division, a senior health official has assured.

There is no cause of panic for swine flu as the health department is well prepared to meet any eventuality and sufficient medicines are available in the government-run hospitals of Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts, Thane Circle's Additional Director of Health Services Dr K R Kharat said on Sunday.

Even if private hospitals require medicines, the health department can provide them as per the need, he said.

Deputy Director of Health Services Dr Ratna Ravkhande was monitoring the situation in the division and visited the Thane Civil Hospital to inspect the facilities and preparedness there, Kharat said.

Of the total 27 ventilators in Thane district, 19 were in working condition, he said.

The state health department had directed the Thane Civil hospital to get the two non-functional ventilators repaired, he added.

Meanwhile, Thane's assistant civil surgeon Dr RI Rathod expressed concern over the "big gap" between the blood available for medical needs and the requirement for patients arriving at the Civil hospital.

He appealed to the NGOs and social organisations to launch more blood donation drives in this regard.
