Woman naxal held in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district

A 27-year-old woman Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head, was arrested by a joint team of security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker district, police said on Tuesday.

Raipur: A 27-year-old woman Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head, was arrested by a joint team of security forces in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker district, police said on Tuesday.

Acting on a specific input, member of Pallemari LOS (local operation squad) Fuleshwari Pudo alias Mayawati was apprehended last evening from Iragaon village under Bhanupratappur region, a senior police official told a news agency.

Security forces were rushed to Iragaon, located around 250 kms away from the state capital Raipur, after getting inputs about the presence of the woman rebel there.

After encircling the region, she was nabbed, the official said.

She was active in Rajnandgaon-Kanker district border and has been involved in several naxal incidents, including murder, attacks on police party, torching vehicles and loot, he said, adding Mayawati was being interrogated.
