Kin of surrendered Naxal killed in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Brother of a surrendered naxal, who had claimed that ultras suffered a huge loss in Pidmel encounter with security forces, was murdered by Maoists today in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Sukma district.

"Body of Sodhi Chandrasingh (35) was found lying in a pool of blood this morning near Pantapara forests under Polampalli police station limits," a senior police official told PTI today.

A native of Karigundam village, the victim was the brother of Sodhi Rama, a janmlitia commander who had surrendered before police in April this year after the Pidmel incident.

On April 11, seven Special Task Force (STF) personnel were killed in a gun-battle with rebels in forests of Pidmel village under Polampalli police station limits of Sukma.

Following the incident, Rama, who took part in the encounter, surrendered before police and revealed that as many 35 cadres were gunned down in the face-off.

However, naxals later in a press release had denied such claims.

Police have recovered a note by naxals near the body of Chandrasingh in which rebels accused him of acting as a police informer while working with the outlawed movement.

As per the pamphlet, both Rama and Chandrasingh had passed on crucial details about activities of rebels in the past to the police.

Even after several warnings when Chandrasingh continued to do so he was convicted by holding 'Jan Adalat'? (peoples? court), the official said.

Soon after getting information about the incident, security forces were rushed to the spot and the body was sent for post-mortem, he said.

Prima facie, it appears that Chandrasingh was killed with a sharp edged weapon, he said, adding the autopsy would determine the actual cause of death.

Meanwhile, a combing operation has been launched in the region to nab the attackers, he added.
