Voting for RS by-poll underway in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 06: The voting for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Kerala, caused by the death of CPI leader V V Raghavan, began this morning.

Congress candidate P J Kurien is expected to win the seat going by the strength of the ruling UDF.

The LDF, however, has put up CPI's C Divakaran against Kurien.

Assembly Speaker Therambil Ramakrishnan, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan and former Chief Minister A K Antony were among those who cast their votes in the initial hours.

The result will be known after four pm.

The UDF has 99 members in the house having a strength of 140 elected members.
