Movement to provide long term measures for Tsunami affected

Coimbatore, Jan 06: In a unique effort to provide long term relief for Tsunami victims, concerned people from all walks of life here joined hands and formed a movement called, Kovai Aid for Rehabilitation and Motivation (Karam).

long term relief for Tsunami victims, concerned people from
all walks of life here joined hands and formed a movement
called, Kovai Aid for Rehabilitation and Motivation (Karam).

The main aim of Karam was to arrange long-term relief
assistance to the affected families, by providing schools,
houses, medical care, fishing boats and nets, by collecting Rs
five crore.

At a meeting here last evening, Karam activists called
upon the citizens to come forward and liberally contribute to
a noble cause, for rehabilitating thousands of affected
families.

A leading instruments company, Pricol, handed over a
cheque of Rs one crore, G K Sundaram, chairman of Lakshmi
Mills, announced Rs 25 lakh and the chairman of Shakti Group,
N Mahalingam contributed Rs 20 lakh as first installment.

Besides contributing Rs five lakh, the Coimbatore
district small industries association proposed to build 100
houses in any of the affected area.

Leading industrialists of the region like S V
Balarubramaniam, chairman of Bannari Amman Sugars and K
Damodaraswamy Naidu, chairman of Annapoorna Group of Hotels,
said that Karam would send proposals to the government for
building houses and other forms of relief.

Meanwhile, another organisation Isha foundation said
that it will adopt 120 severely affected villages in the
coastal areas of Nagapattinam and Cuddalore.
