Soz for movement to preserve natural resources in J&K

Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz has urged youths, academicians and scientists to come forward and initiate a movement for the preservation of natural resources in Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, June 06: Union Water Resources Minister
Saifuddin Soz has urged youths, academicians and scientists to
come forward and initiate a movement for the preservation of
natural resources in Jammu and Kashmir.

"The state is rich in bio-diversity but we are losing
it at an alarming pace. So, J&K deserves a master plan to
preserve its natural resources," Soz said at a function
organised by Kashmir University here on World Environment Day
yesterday.

"I hope that the young generation, academicians and
scientists would come forward to lead the movement for a
better future of the state," the minister said, stressing the
immediate need for the conservation of water bodies such as
Dal, Wular, Hukarsar and Anchar lakes.

Instead of depending on the government, the minister
said, the movement could compel the state to seek guidance
from the advocates for the preservation of ecology in shaping
a safe future.

He also warned that "global warming is not only a
challenge but a disaster that has already set in" and stressed
the need for adopting an environment-friendly strategy while
utilising precious natural resources.
