Pranab questions Left Front`s farmland acquisition

Senior Congress leader and External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday questioned the Left Front government`s stand on acquisition of farmland to set up industry in West Bengal.

Canning (WB), May 10: Senior Congress leader and
External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday questioned
the Left Front government`s stand on acquisition of farmland
to set up industry in West Bengal.

"Why the state government had sought to set up industry
on multi-crop land in Singur when barren land is available in
the state?" Mukherjee asked an election rally referring to
the Nano car factory of the Tata Motors which left Singur for
Sanand in Gujarat.

After slumbering for 32 years, the Left Front have woken
up to talk about industrialisation, he said and alleged that
56,000 factories were closed during its tenure.

He was addressing an election rally at Sonarpur in
Mathurapur Lok Sabha constituency in support of Trinamool
Congress candidate C M Jatua.

Mukherjee claimed that the people of West Bengal have
been fed up of the Left Front government that has failed to
provide job.

The voters were now in favour of the Congress-Trinamool
Congress alliance, he claimed.

The Left Front was thinking of forming government at the
Centre but who is the prime ministerial candidate of them, he
asked.
