DMRC to start metro service on Noida corridor by August

Commuters in Mayur Vihar and adjoining areas will have to wait for three more months to enjoy the comfort of Metro as the DMRC has decided to start operations on the Noida corridor at one go by the end of August.

New Delhi, May 10: Commuters in Mayur Vihar and
adjoining areas will have to wait for three more months to
enjoy the comfort of Metro as the DMRC has decided to start
operations on the Noida corridor at one go by the end of
August.

The DMRC had earlier decided to commission the Noida
corridor in two phases. The first from Yamuna Bank-New Ashok
Nagar in June and from Ashok Nagar-Noida city centre in
October.

"We have decided to commission the Noida corridor at
one go. I am confident that the entire stretch till Noida
Sector 32 (City Centre) will be opened to public by the end of
August," DMRC chief E Sreedharan told reporters at the Yamuna
Bank station here.

He said the DMRC will commission the line once
required number of trains are available and that the Metro was
expecting 9 trains to be delivered by the end of June.

"We don`t want to use the trains which we will be
getting now on this line. The trains will be operated on the
Line 2 and Line 3 which are terribly overcrowded," he said.

The DMRC chief said work on the Yamuna Bank-Anand
Vihar ISBT line was progressing on "full swing" and it will be
operational by December this year.

Sreedharan said the 15 km link between Inderlok-Mundka
will be commissioned once the trains for these section arrive
from BEML, Bangalore.

Sreedharan said the Metro trains are being
manufactured at a new factory near Baroda in Gujarat and the
first train is expected to be rolled out by the end of May.

On the feeder buses to Uttar Pradesh from Dilshad
Garden station, Sreedharan said the UP government wanted the
DMRC to pay road tax which they are not willing to.

"The feeder bus service is kind of a social service..
we are not doing it for business," he said, adding, he was
hopeful of a solution very soon.

On agitation by DMRC workers, he said they were
"engineered by outsiders" and many of the participants were
"outsiders".

The DMRC chief said the Metro has been able to grow
leaps and bounds because of the team work.

"We have certain ethos and values here. It is the team
work which made the Delhi Metro success... We work in good
spirit."

He also expressed displeasure at the MCD and police
for not maintaining the area near the Metro stations and said
he had written a letter in this regard to Lt Gov Tejendra
Khanna.

On the RTV feeder buses, he said the licences were
given by the Delhi government and that the DMRC has nothing to
do with it.
