New Delhi, Dec 04: Ending all speculation about the row over Chandu Borde taking over as chairman selection for the scheduled selectors meet on Dec 05, BCCI president Sharad Pawar said, “Vengsarkar is welcome for tomorrow’s meeting as he still is chairman selection.” Dilip Vengsarkar on the other hand, kept his card close to his chest and decided not to respond to curious media.
Pawar further added that, “Reports of him (Vengsarkar) not coming to the meeting is not true as circulating in the media.” BCCI is happy with Vengsarkar and his role, added the BCCI President.

Addressing a press conference Pawar said, “It is an old decision which has been communicated. Guidelines are not new. Comparing Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar with Vengsarkar is not correct. They have different roles. They are not involved in team selection.”

Freedom to right columns is not objectionable but as a selector it is not a practice. Primarily we should not violate rules and norms.

Answering question on Vengsarkar’s monetary concerns Pawar said, “It is a family and we will look into his financial concerns. I do feel that I and my colleagues should work together and solve it. These guidelines are not new and are in place for a many years. Rules are sacrosanct and hence should be respected.”

“As a selector the priority now is to select a team which serves Indian cricket aspirations in best possible manner. Selectors should watch more matches and I particularly feel that Vengsarkar has done a commendable job till now,” added Pawar.

Pawar also added that monetary remuneration of compensation for selectors can be worked out after the Team selection. The President BCCI said, “We are already looking into the matter and very soon a major decision will be taken. In principle we agree that it is a full time job so a decision will be made in this regard on Dec 16, in the annual board meeting.”

He assured that “all issues” would be addressed

Ending speculation on Gary Kirsten accepting the post of Team India coach he Pawar said, “We have not received a final letter from Gary Kirsten and his approval is still awaited. I read in newspapers, but still don’t know about it.”
