Kolkata, Dec 04: A remorseful West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Tuesday regretted making the statement in which he had said that armed CPM cadres paid back the Bhumi Uchhed Pratirodh Committee activists in the same coin in context of Nandigram violence.
While describing the troubled Nandigram as a political as well as administrative failure, Bhattacharjee said he shouldn’t have made the remarks.

Speaking further, the Chief Minister said he and state Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi share excellent relations and often exchange notes on literature. The remarks assume importance in the wake of the Governor being critical of the state government’s handling of the situation in Nandigram.

Commenting on the rift within the ruling coalition on the issue, Bhattacharjee admitted to differences but said the Left Front can’t be compared with the UPA and NDA.

On the Taslima Nasreen issue, the CM refused to make any comment but said he would speak to External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the matter.
