Pappu asked to report twice to police in a day

Authorities here on Sunday asked the campaigners and candidates facing serious criminal charges, including controversial RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, to report to their respective police stations twice every day.

Purnia, April 26: Authorities here on Sunday asked the campaigners and candidates facing serious criminal charges, including controversial RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, to report to their respective police stations twice every day till the polling took place.

In an order, District Magistrate-cum-Returning Officer
(Purnia) Sridhar Cheru Bellu asked the police to ensure that
the candidates and campaigners facing serious criminal charges
must turn up before the officers of their respective police
stations twice in a day, official sources said.

"Close watch is also being kept on their movement in the
constituency," they said.

We have initiated the exercise to ensure free, peaceful
and fair polls in the constituency going to poll in third
phase on April 30, they said.

Pappu Yadav`s mother Shanti Priya (Independent) is
pitted against BJP`s Udai Singh in this constituency. Yadav,
facing life imprisonment in the CPI(M) MLA Ajit Sarkar murder
case, is now now on bail and is campaigning for his mother in
Purnia and wife and sitting MP Ranjit Ranjan contesting from
Supaul parliamentary constituency.
