CPI, MPP demand repoll at 16 polling stations in Manipur

Alleging that the ruling Congress had rigged the second phase Lok Sabha polls in the state, Manipur People`s Party (MPP) and CPI have demanded a repoll at 16 polling stations in the Inner Manipur parliamentary.

Imphal, April 26: Alleging that the ruling Congress
had rigged the second phase Lok Sabha polls in the state,
Manipur People`s Party (MPP) and CPI have demanded a repoll at
16 polling stations in the Inner Manipur parliamentary.

Sources in both parties today said they had separately
lodged a written complaint with the Election Commission
requesting them to conduct repolls in two assembly
constituencies of Andro and Thoubal, which are part of Inner
Manipur parliamentary constituency.

They had also submitted documentary evidence to support
their claim.

Sources in both parties are alleging that on April 22,
Congress workers had practised large scale proxy voting and
did not allow many people to cast their votes.

Although many of the polling booths were earlier placed
under hyper sensitive category, they were later converted to
normal category so that no armed security personnel could be
deployed, they claimed.

While an MPP team led by its president L Chandramani left
for New Delhi yesterday, another team of CPI, including party
nominee in Inner Manipur M Nara would leave today to meet
Election Commission officials and plead for repolling, party
sources said.

When contacted, no senior congress leader was available
to comment.
