New residential complex for Delhi policemen

Housing woes of Delhi Police personnel are soon set to lessen with authorities planning to develop a Rs 750-crore residential complex in 25 hectares of land in the outskirts of the city.

New Delhi, Sept 17: Housing woes of Delhi Police personnel are soon set to lessen with authorities planning to develop a Rs 750-crore residential complex in 25 hectares of land in the outskirts of the city.

The proposed complex, to come up in government land in
Dheerpur, will have about 6,000 dwelling units.

The project will be executed through a public-private
partnership venture on `Design, Build, Finance, Operate and
Transfer` (DBFOT) basis.

"We intend to improve the current level of housing
satisfaction from 22 percent to 40 percent by the end of
the current Five Year Plan and this project is an effort in
that direction," a senior police official said.

Once completed, the project will ease the pressure on
Delhi Police which have a large number of pending requests for
accommodation.

For realising the project, the city police have already
invited tenders for preparing a master plan and conducting a
feasibility study of the project.

The city police plan to provide a modern residential
colony in Dheerpur which is integrated with the surrounding
areas by creating a functional urban infrastructure, the
official said.

The residential complex is likely to have a community
centre, and recreation and health facilities, he said.

The firm which wins the tender for preparing the master
plan for the project will be asked to make proposals for
development confining to the site, according to the official.

"However, to achieve the objective of harmonious
development with the surrounding city and adequately meet the
need for transport linkages, the master plan should be made
in accordance with the ground situation," the official said.

At present, Delhi Police have 14,835 government
quarters.
