Mumbai, Jan: Besides offering an exotic rail journey, the Deccan Odyssey, the state's premier luxury train would also for the first time offer contingency insurance cover for those travelling in it.
"This is for the first time that passengers aboard a train are being offered an insurance package along with their rail journey," according to L B Sonawane of National Insurance Company.
As per an agreement with the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, the passengers were being offered an insurance of Rs 10 lakh in case of hospitalisation during the seven-day package and Rs 10 lakh in case of any accident during the week long journey, he said.
Interestingly, the passengers were also insured for Rs one lakh in case of any burglary, he said.
"The employees of the Taj have also been covered under the workmen's compensation scheme," he said.
"In case a legal suit was filed against those operating the train, the insurance would cover the cost," he said.
