New Delhi, Jan 06: Acting tough on poll-bound Haryana Government, the Election Commission on Thursday summoned some of its senior officials to appear before it on January 10 for issuing two tender notices in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

New Delhi, Jan 06: Acting tough on poll-bound Haryana Government, the Election Commission on Thursday summoned some of its senior officials to appear before it on January 10 for issuing two tender notices in violation of the Model Code of Conduct.

Rejecting the explanations give by the secretaries as "not found satisfactory", the Commission directed the Chief Secretary to instruct the concerned secretaries, chief engineers and the executive engineers to appear before it, an EC press note said.

The Commission took note of the two tender notices, one by the Public Works Department and the other by Irrigation Department, for undertaking various construction works in Hissar and Sirsa, violating the Model Code of Conduct.

The total estimated expenditure on the construction works has been shown as Rs 133.66 lakhs and Rs 157.15 lakhs respectively, the press note said.

The Commission called for the explanation from the concerned secretaries and directed that the tenders shall not be opened till the Model Code of Conduct is in force.
