Congress slams Chamling for politicising insurgency

The Congress hit out at the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) President Pawan Kumar Chamling for politicising insurgency in other North-Eastern states to garner votes in the ensuing Assembly and parliamentary polls in Sikkim.

Gangtok, April 26: The Congress on Sunday hit out at the
Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) President Pawan Kumar Chamling
for politicising insurgency in other North-Eastern states to
garner votes in the ensuing Assembly and parliamentary polls
in Sikkim.

"Chamling is trying to make a political capital out of the
insurgency in North-Eastern states which the Congress condemns
strongly," the AICC member Maj (Retd) Ved Prakash told
reporters here.

``Raising the terror issue for garnering votes reflects
the desperation on the part of the ruling party in the Sikkim
which has lost its mental balance after being faced with the
prospect of being ousted from power after 15 years,`` he said
and rebuked the SDF President for resorting to terror tactics
himself to intimidate voters.

Chamling had yesterday warned the people against electing
the Congress saying that most of the North-Eastern States
being ruled by the national party have been reeling under
insurgency for several years.

``Terrorism or insurgeny is not a poll issue in the
North-Eastern States which had suffered from the menace for
decades,`` Prakash said and questioned Chamling`s move to
raise the issue in Sikkim which has been a peaceful state so
far.
