Vijayawada (AP), Jan 07: Reiterating the party's promise on the issue of Telangana state, Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today said "if people want, we will have a separate Telangana."
"The UPA has formed a committee which would discuss in detail the Telangana issue. The Congress sticks to the second SRC (State Reorganisation Committee) recommendations on the issue and if people want, we will have a separate Telangana," APCC chief K Keshava Rao told a meet-the-press programme here.

When asked if separate Rayalaseema state issue would also be included in the second SRC recommendations, Rao said it has to be discussed later.

To a query, Kesava Rao said the government and the party are two sides of a coin and unless, both of them work together on the people's issues, it would be difficult to implement various programmes.

On the issue of party reforms, he said he wants Congress to identify itself with social issues concerning the people.

"I want to create a new activity profile of taking up people's issues. For example, there are 28 lakh primary members in the party, if each one of them decides to admit one student to school, 28 lakh students can be enrolled," he said.

The preliminary selection of the party members would be held from January 11 and state unit's reorganisation would be held after January 31, he added.
