Shillong, Jan 05: Even as intensive parleys between
disgruntled congress MLAs of Meghalaya and high command
observer Mabel Rebello were on to defuse the leadership
crisis, CWC member and party's general secretary Ramesh
Chennithala arrived here today.

Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee president S C Marak
said here Chennithala arrived here this afternoon to talk
to the MLAs to sort out the differences.

Chennithala's arrival was viewed here as a reinforcement
by the Congress high command to defuse the situation.

Marak said during his meeting with Rebello yesterday he
submitted her a report on the present political situation in
the state and the "best solution to defuse the crisis".

Rebello had told reporters she would submit reports of
her meetings with MLAs to the high command.

Many disgruntled Congress MLAs, mostly those who lost
ministership after the downsizing exercise, reportedly asked
for removing Lapang as Chief Minister during their talks with
Rebello.
