Kolkata, Dec 13: A unique four-day book fair for women is underway in Kolkata, showcasing books authored only by women writers.
Organised by a group of Bengali writers, over 30 publishing houses are participating in the fair, which aims to bring various women-related issues of the contemporary world to the fore.

Organisers said the uniqueness of the event lay in the fact that the books have been written and published by women only.

"I believe it`s an important event, especially in today`s scenario. And, considering the condition of women in today`s world, I think through writing, a kind of transformation can be brought about in the women`s world," said Kusum Jain, representative of a Publishing House `Rajkamal`.

Since Sunday when the fair was inaugurated, visitors have been rubbing shoulders with several eminent personalities, including filmmaker Aparna Sen and exiled Bangladeshi writer Tasleema Nasrin who attended as special guests.

"I think this effort is very laudable, because it`s a kind of women`s perspective on the book fair…totally a female perspective on the book fair, and I am really welcoming it," Sen said.

Several cultural events are also scheduled to be held as a part of the fair, which will conclude on December 13.
