New Delhi, Dec 13: On the eve of the fifth
anniversary of the Parliament terror attack, Penguin
Publication has released a compilation of essays, which look
closely at the available facts and raises questions about the
investigations and the trial related to the attack.

The book titled, "13 December: A Reader, the Strange Case
of the Attack on the Indian Parliament," brings together
essays by lawyers, academics, journalists and writers including
ones like Arundhati Roy, Praful Bidwai and Nandita Haksar
among others.

The book is slated to add fuel to the furore over the
apex court's verdict of capital punishment to one of the
accused in the case.

The introduction to the book reads, "Both the Delhi High
Court and the Supreme Court have noted that the police
violated legal safeguards, fabricated evidence and extracted
false confessions. Yet, one man, Mohammed Afzal, has been
sentenced to death by hanging to 'satisfy' the 'collective
conscience of society'."

The book raises 13 questions for the December 13
incident. The book questions the government, Delhi Police and
its investigations.

One of the questions reads, "is it true that the military
mobilisation to the Pakistan border had begun long before the
13 December attack?"

The release function was attended by noted Gandhian
Nirmala Deshpande and the writers. Deshpande demanded a
thorough probe into the whole incident.

"It is time that the people should know, why and how did
this attack happen," she said.
