International Yoga Day: Amit Shah, Baba Ramdev create world record, draw crowd of 54,522 in Ahmedabad

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday led over 50,000 yoga enthusiasts in performing 'asanas' in Lucknow amid showers on the International Day of Yoga.

Ahmedabad: BJP chief Amit Shah and Baba Ramdev drew a record breaking crowd of 54,522 at the GMDC ground in Ahmedabad on Wednesday to mark International Yoga Day and creating Guinness World Record.

They handed certificate to the Yoga guru and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for bettering the 35,984 recorded in Delhi in 2015 which had seen Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading thousands in a spectacular mass participation.

The mega event was held simultaneously at five grounds including those belonging to Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, the Gujarat University and the Ahmedabad Education Society.

The event was co-organised by the Gujarat government with Rupani sharing the dais with Shah and Ramdev.

The grounds had 100 entry points, 100 giant LED screens and 10,000 volunteers from Patanjali Yogpeeth Gurukul, as per IANS.

The International Yoga Day debuted in 2015 after a UN backed the India-sponsored initiative that was supported by over 170 member states.
