New Delhi: It may be called gentlemen's game, but the game of 22 yards is no unknown to on-field tussles. In recent times, the Border-Gavaskar series witnessed quite a lot of words-worthy comments being passed on, both on and off the field.

But on Wednesday, the tenth season of Indian Premier League (IPL) probably got its first. Well, it was between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) batsman Manoj Tiwary at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

The incident took place in the 15th over of Kolkata's batting, when the skipper was en route to his blistering knock of 62 off 46 deliveries. He was seen uttering some words to Manoj Tiwary. The former KKR batsman too ran in from his slip position to return a word or two to Gautam. The spat did go on for long and was still on when Gambhir was at the non-striker's end.

This surely is not the first time that the duo are involved in a verbal spat. Walking down memory lane, going back to 2015, it was Bengal going head-to-head against Delhi in a Ranji Trophy match at Feroz Shah Kotla. The long continuos exchange of words on the third day of the match resulted in both the players being fined – 70 per cent of match fees for Gambhir while it was 40 per cent for Tiwary.

As for the match between KKR and RPS, Gambhir and Robin Uthappa played brilliant knocks to power the team to a seven-wicket victory.
