Former J&K minister Kochak dies

Former Jammu and Kashmir minister and senior National Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Kochak died on Saturday following a heart attack. He was 81.

Srinagar, March 28: Former Jammu and Kashmir minister and senior National Conference leader Ghulam Nabi Kochak died on Saturday following a heart attack. He was 81.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

Kochak had joined Awami National Conference headed by Khalida Shah, widow of former Chief Minister G M Shah on March 25.

Kochak was a close associate of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and had been imprisoned twice (1955-59) and (1963-65) as plebiscite front leader.

He served as minister of state in Sheikh`s cabinet 1975-77 and later as cabinet minister till September 8, 1982 and again during 1984-86.

National conference leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, condoled the demise of senior politician.
