LUCKNOW: A woman was tied to a tree and mercilessly beaten up in public by her husband for allegedly running away with another man. The incident took place in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr.
A small clip of the shocking incident, recorded on a mobile phone, went viral on social media. In the footage, a saree-clad woman is seen tied to a tree. A man -- the alleged husband – is flogging her with what seems to be a whip or a deflated tyre. Over 25 people encircle them, none taking any action to stop the husband.
The husband, son of a former village panchayat chief, took the extreme step after the woman allegedly ran away with another man.
The woman, initially screaming, falls unconscious towards the end.
In her complaint to police, the woman reportedly said that she eloped with her neighbour and stayed at the house of one of his relatives in a different village. The couple were later convinced to return to the village, where the panchayat ordered the public flogging.
After the incident, the woman was dragged into a room and allegedly molested by several men, including the husband.
The Uttar Pradesh police have now arrested both the former panchayat head and his son for the incident.
“The police have arrested the woman’s husband, former panchayat head and his son in the matter,” said senior police officer Pravin Ranjan Singh.
