LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday rushed to meet the victims of the NTPC blast that took place earlier this week in Raebareli soon after he returned from his three-day trip to Mauritius.

The UP CM met the victims at King George's Medical University, Civil Hospital and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow. He met the doctors and instructed them to ensure that they are given the best treatment.

He had announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the family of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the grievously injured besides Rs 25,000 for other injured workers.

An explosion took place in a boiler at the state-run power giant NTPC’s Unchahar plant in Raebareli district on Wednesday in which 32 people were killed and dozens were injured

In a statement, the NTPC said that at around 3:30 pm on Wednesday, there was a sudden abnormal sound at 20 meters elevation at unit number six of its Unchahar plant. There was an opening in corner number two from which hot flue gases and steam escaped affecting the people working around the area, the central public sector undertaking said. It added that around 80 people were rushed to NTPC hospital, most of them were discharged after giving first-aid.

Six of those with severe burn injuries were admitted to AIIMS trauma centre and nine were taken to Safdarjung Hospital.

"They have been admitted in the burn department of the AIIMS trauma centre. One of them has 60 per cent burns, while others have burn injuries ranging between 25 and 50 per cent," a senior doctor at the premier All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) said.

Initial investigations into the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) power plant explosion in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli have reportedly revealed that safety norms at Unit Number 6 were breached.
