Chauri Chaura: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah on Wednesday appealed to the electorate of Uttar Pradesh to get mukti from 'Kasab' for the betterment of the state.

Addressing an election rally in Chauri Chaura, the BJP president took a dig at the Samajwadi Party, Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) saying, “If you (electorate) want UP to become a developed state, then you would have to defeat Kasab.”

The senior BJP leader likened the three rival political parties to the Pakistan-based terrorist Ajmal Kasab, who became the face of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai.

While urging not to vote for BJP's rivals, Shah said, “While Ka and Sa stand for Congress and Samajwadi Party, B stands for Mayawati's BSP.”

The Congress and Samajwadi Party in January announced to jointly fight the Assembly polls that is expected to set the course for the 2019 Lok Sabha battle. Some leaders from both sides have hinted that the alliance will continue for the general election.

BJP and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have repeatedly termed the Samajwadi Party-Congress grouping as an opportunistic alliance.

'Sidelined' SP leader Amar Singh on Tuesday made explosive revelations, claiming that his party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav actually scripted the bitter acrimony between his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his uncle Shivpal.

Stating reasons, Singh said that Mulayam scripted the entire drama to beat the anti-incumbency and law and order situation factors against the Samajawdi Party government and help his son win the crucial assembly elections.

SP is contesting in 298 of the 403 Assembly seats and Congress the remaining 105.

In the 2012 Assembly polls, SP had won 224 seats with a vote share of 29.3 percent, while Congress had bagged 28 seats with an 11.7 percent vote share. A party or alliance which garners 40 per cent of the votes will sweep the polls.
