I’m one of the wolves going up now, warns Novak Djokovic

New Delhi: Former world number one Novak Djokovic is fighting to regain his imperious form. The Serbian witnessed a poor start to the 2017 season, and he needed a good outing at Indian Wells Masters – a tournament he won five times.

During one of the pre-tournament press conferences, the 29-year-old used an interesting word to describe his preparedness for the tournament and the remainder of the season.

Having endured the worst possible start for a all-time great., Djokovic needed to convince himself and also to stress the truth, that he is better than before, ready and hungrier.

That's when he invoked that word 'wolf'.

“I guess I’m one of the wolves going up now... And I’m hungry," Djokovic said.

He is one of the wolves in men's tennis. But he being a Slavic, he knows a thing or two about being a wolf.

Regarded as one of the strongest symbols, wolves are closely linked to Balkan and Serbian mythology. In majority of the Serbian mythology, wolf is used a totem, and is often used as a symbol of fearlessness.

The defending champion has got a first round bye at Indian Wells, but has been put in the bottom quarter which also has the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

The wolf in Djokovic sure needs some waking up.
