Budget: Steel sector seeks relief in customs duty on key raw materials

The non-availability of these items in good quality and quantity hinders the growth of the steel industry, industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said in its Budget recommendations for the sector. The basic customs import duty on anthracite coal is 2.5 per cent. The availability of the said item in "good quality" is declining in the country and the steel industry may have to become totally dependent on import of these on a regular basis, the body said while suggesting a reduction in import duty to nil.

PM Modi's important meeting with economists & experts before general budget

The meeting assumes significance as according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India's economy is projected to contract 7.5 per cent in the current fiscal ending March 31, 2021, while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank estimates the contraction at 10.3 per cent and 9.6 per cent, respectively.

Union Budget 2021: Will ask govt to make employers' contribution, tier-II account tax free for all: PFRDA

"There is this tier-II NPS account which was made tax free exclusively for the central government employees recently. So there also, we would request the government to give the facility to all the subscribers. In the tax-free tier II account we are keeping a lock-in period of 3 years because you are getting the tax-free status...And we want it to be extended to all the other employees," he added.
