The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday (May 27, 2020) operationalised its no.18 Squadron, the "Flying Bullets", at  at Sulur airbase in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore, equipping it with the fourth generation Mk1 LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) Tejas. Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria flew the single-seater Light Combat Aircraft Tejas fighter with 45 Squadron.

Indian Air Force (IAF) is a step closer to getting a fully combat-ready indigenous supersonic fighter with the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas in Final Operational Clearance-standard (SP-21) making its first successful test flight in Bengaluru on Tuesday (March 17, 2020). Tejas FOC(SP-21), piloted by former Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Commodore and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Chief Test Flying (Fixed Wing) KA Muthana (retired), was in the air for 40 minutes.

Tejas, India's indigenous supersonic fighter, likely contender for Malaysia's LCA programme

Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), India's indigenous single-engine supersonic fighter and one of the flying machines in the Indian Air Force (IAF) arsenal, is likely to be one of the jets which Malaysia is keen to evaluate as part of the defence modernisation programme. Malaysia will call for bids from global defence majors in early 2020 for the supply of up to 36 aircraft for the Royal Air Force and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which manufactures Tejas jets, will most probably be one of the contenders.

Indian Air Force says deal for 83 Tejas LCA with HAL soon

As per sources, the deal for 83 Tejas LCA, which are of the Mark 1A variant, is expected to cost the IAF in the range of Rs 45,000 crore. The aircraft will have improved serviceability, faster weapon-loading time, enhanced survivability, a better electronic warfare suite and Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar that will significantly enhance its capability.
