The apex court observed that the Centre's regulations on social media are mere guidelines and do not have provision for any action against digital platforms.

Tandav row: Allahabad HC rejects anticipatory bail plea of senior Amazon Prime executive

While rejecting the application, a single-judge bench of Justice Sidharth said that the applicant was earlier granted interim protection from arrest by another bench in a similar case but she was not cooperating with the investigation. The petitioner's plea was that the web series was a work of fiction.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court declined to grant interim protection from any coercive action to 'Tandav' director Ali Abbas Zafar, actor Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub and others facing multiple FIRs for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The court observed that "freedom of speech and expression is not absolute" and is subject to restrictions.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directs Tandav makers to delete controversial scenes from web-series

After receiving ample complaints about the political drama, the Ministry of Information and  Broadcasting has directed the makers of 'Tandav' to delete the controversial scenes. This is for the first time that changes have been implemented in the content of an OTT release.

Actress Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday (January 20) tweeted that her Twitter account has been restricted temporarily.  Now, Kangana Ranaut has slammed the "liberal community" who reported her account to Twitter, going on to call Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey "chacha". "Librus cried to their chacha @jack  and got my account temporarily restricted," she wrote.

An FIR was registered at Lucknow’s Hazratganj Kotwali against Amazon Prime’s India head of original content, Ali Abbas Zafar, producer of the show Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. On Tuesday, Ali Abbas Zafar released a fresh statement saying the team has decided to implement changes in 'Tandav' web-series in order to address the raising concerns.

Tandav controversy: Makers to implement changes in web-series amid backlash over hurting religious sentiments

Ali Abbas Zafar issued a new statement on Tuesday apologising again and reassuring the viewers that the cast and crew did not intend to hurt the sentiments of the people. "We thank the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for guidance and support in the matter. We once again apologise if the series has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments," the official statement read.

In a video message, ABAP chairman Mahant Narendra Giri said that the apology from the team of "Tandav" was meaningless since it came only after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a serious note of the matter and the FIR was registered. 'Tandav' is directed by 'Sultan' helmer Ali Abbas Zafar and released on Amazon Prime Video recently.
