No sugar shortage: 31 million MT sugar to be available during 2016-17

Discounting fears of any sugar shortage in the country, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has said that India would have about 30 - 31 million MT sugar stock available for the next sugar season 2016-17, which would be sufficient to meet the domestic consumption.

ICRA pegs domestic sugar production at 24MT in 2013-14 marketing year

Sugar production in the country is expected to decline to 24 million tonnes (MT) during sugar year 2013-14, due to reduced cane crushing in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, a ratings agency said in its latest report.
