The IAF has almost 900 combat aircraft in it inventory while the total aeroplanes in active service with the force number over 1720. The Russian Sukhoi Su-30MKIs form the backbone of IAF fighter fleet and the force flies 272 of the twin-seater, twin-engine multirole combat aircraft.

BrahMos-armed Sukhoi Su-30MKI gets water salute at Thanjavur Air Force Station as IAF inducts 222 Tigersharks Squadron

The airbase is located in Tamil Nadu and the Su-30MKIs with their 1,500 kilometres combat radius and the air-launched BrahMos which have a range of 400 km will ensure the IAF is able to patrol the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and vast areas of the Indian Ocean.

IAF Sukhoi Su-30MKI, DRDO test-fire Astra BVRAAM 5 times in 3 days, weapon to be inducted soon

With the test-firings, Astra missile has completed the user trial phase. Now, Astra BVRAAM will be inducted into the IAF with the DRDO sounding confident that it will prove to be force multiplier due to its pinpoint accuracy and long-range in taking out aerial threats.

IAF Sukhoi Su-30MKI successfully test-fires Astra BVR Air-to-Air missile developed by DRDO

The missile was test-fired from a Sukhoi Su-30MKI combat aircraft of the Indian Air Force that took off from an airbase in West Bengal. The Astra missiles are equipped with mid-course inertial guidance and terminal active radar homing. They are capable of targeting the enemy aircraft or missiles at short-range (20 km) as well as at BVR (over 70 km).

IAF LCA Tejas to have a special pilot; Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to fly in the fighter in Bengaluru

Tejas, designed and developed by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Aeronautical Development Agency, is India's home-grown single-engine multirole light fighter to replace the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 Bison aircraft. Tejas, the soon-to-be-inducted French Rafale and Sukhoi Su-30 MKIs will be the backbone of IAF for the next several years.
