Farmer unions cancel Budget day march to Parliament, but agitation against farm laws to continue

As widening cracks in their ongoing agitation against the three farm laws after the violence during Tuesday’s tractor parade, farmer unions have now cancelled their planned march to Parliament on February 1 when the Union Budget 2021-22 would be presented. They, however, said on Wednesday that their agitation against the farm laws will continue and public meetings and hunger strikes will be held across the country on January 30 on Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary to emphasise on peace and non-violence.

Punjabi actor Deep Sidhu, gangster-turned activist Lakha Sidhana booked for Red Fort violence

The Delhi Police has named Punjabi actor and singer Deep Sidhu and gangster-turned-social activist Lakha Sidhana in an FIR in connection with the violence at the historic Red Fort.
It has registered the case against them at the Kotwali police station of North district. The two have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and other legislations.

Delhi Police detains 200 people in connection with tractor rally violence

Delhi Police on Wednesday said that it has detained 200 people in connection with violence during farmers' tractor rally in the city on Tuesday. Those detained will be arrested soon, the Delhi Police said, adding that 22 FIRs have been registered in connection with Tuesday’s violence and chaos in Delhi. Delhi Police registered FIR under IPC Sec 395 (dacoity), 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 120 b (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and other sections, regarding Tuesday’s violence.

Several routes closed in Delhi-NCR, check traffic police advisory before you step out of your home

A day after widespread violence and chaos in the national capital following farmers’ tractor march, several important routes in Delhi and the NCR remain closed on Wednesday. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory urging commuters from Delhi to Ghaziabad to avoid certain routes and check traffic updates before stepping out of their homes to avoid any inconvenience later. They have been advised to take Shahdara, Karkari Mor and DND routes as Ghazipur Mandi, NH-9 and NH-24 have been closed for traffic movement.

Delhi Police has registered as many as 22 FIRs in connection with the violence which broke out during the farmers' tractor rally in the national capital on Tuesday. According to sources in Delhi Police, a total of 5 FIRs have been lodged in Eastern Range. The tractor rally by farmers saw violence at several places in Delhi as protestors clashed with police and broke barricades. Protesters breached the Red Fort premises and waved flags they were carrying from its ramparts.

Actor Deep Sidhu has stated that the national flag was not removed from the flagpole at the Red Fort and that nobody raised a question over the country's unity and integrity. Reacting to allegations that he instigated the farmers to march towards the Red Fort, the actor sought to defend his action, saying he and his supports did not remove the national flag.
