Benchmark indices open in positive trade, Sensex climbs to 626 points

International oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 0.29 per cent higher at USD 91.89 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the Indian capital market on Monday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 372.03 crore as per exchange data.

Sensex, Nifty start on flat note amid mixed global cues; FMCG, energy stocks lead, banks drag

Asian Paints was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rising over 1 percent, followed by PowerGrid, L&T, TCS, Reliance Industries, HCL Tech and ITC. On the other hand, ICICI Bank, M&M, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank and Infosys were among the laggards.

Market update: Sensex down by 400 points, Nifty below 14,800

Sensex opened 0.81 percent, or 405.05 points, lower at 49,360.89, while the Nifty50 index opened at 14,747.35, down 147.55 points, or 0.99 percent. Midcap and smallcap indices saw a decline of over half a percent each. Among sectoral indices, banks, metals, financial services, and auto suffered loss, while gains were seen in Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma.
