BJP leader Kripashankar Singh in a letter to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath said, "I have been living in Maharashtra for the last 50 years. During my tenure, I noticed that when students (from UP) come to Maharashtra, they face several problems due to the lack of knowledge of the Marathi language."

Marathi is compulsory till Class 4 run by the CBSE and ICSE boards. It is optional in later years. If the bill is passed, it will become mandatory for the CBSE and ICSE boards to teach Marathi till Class 10.
