E-filing of income tax returns for individuals for the assessment year 2016-17 is likely to begin sooner this time as the revenue department will put in place the necessary software by mid-April.

Government is looking to further simplify Income Tax return forms to help taxpayers fill them without seeking help from experts and the Revenue Department has set up a committee in this regard.

Simplified income tax return forms likely by month end
The Finance Ministry is likely to come out with simplified Income Tax Return (ITR) forms by the end of this month which may exclude disclosure of dormant bank accounts as also those which do not have a minimum specified balance.
