The statement comes after the remarks made by American singer Rihanna and other celebrities and activists on farmer protests. Earlier the Ministry of External Affairs slammed them saying the facts on the issue must be ascertained before rushing to comment on it, and asserted that the "temptation" of sensationalist social media hashtags and views is "neither accurate nor responsible".

Farmers' protests: Internet services temporarily suspended at Delhi's borders

The suspension comes following the tractor rally on 72nd Republic Day that turned violent when some protesters deviated from the pre-agreed routes. The protestors also breached barricades and clashed with police. The farmers have been protesting since late November 2020, against the new agricultural laws that they say benefit large private buyers at the expense of producers.

Tractor parade: Over 80 Delhi cops injured during clashes with farmers; FIR lodged against culprits

The Delhi Police has so far registered four FIRs in connection with the protesting farmers' tractor parade, of which, three have been registered in the east district, while one in Shahdara district. Centre suspends internet services temporarily in some parts of Delhi after farmers' tractor rally turns violent

The order was approved by Union Home Secretary and was issued under Section 7 of the India Telegraph Act. Thousands of protesting farmers took out a tractor march in several areas of Delhi.

The next meeting between the Centre and farmer leaders have been scheduled for January 22, a day after the farmer unions hold their internal discussions on Thursday. The 10th round of talks ended at Vigyan Bhawan after nearly five hours of talks, including two breaks. "The government proposed to suspend the farm laws for one and a half years....we will meet tomorrow and deliberate over it," said Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan).
