SII's Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covovax’ gets emergency use nod for children aged above 12 years

"Novavax in global trials has demonstrated more than 90 per cent efficacy. Serum Institute of India`s brand Covovax has completed bridging studies in India and has been granted Emergency Use Authorisation by DCGI for adults and for children above the age of 12. Younger age groups will follow shortly," SII CEO Adar Poonawala said in a tweet.

Emergency use nod to Bharat Biotech's Covaxin: WHO's Technical Advisory Group to decide today

The technical panel had earlier sought additional clarifications from Bharat Biotech, the manufacturer of Covaxin, in order to conduct a final Emergency Use Listing (EUL) risk-benefit assessment for global use of the vaccine.

WHO's emergency use nod for Covaxin most likely in October

The EUA is important because without it Covaxin will not be accepted by most countries. WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Expert on Immunization (SAGE) is set to meet on October 5 to take a call on EUA to Covaxin.

Without EUA, Covaxin will not be considered an accepted vaccine by most countries around the world. the WHO's queries for Bharat Biotech comes despite the Hyderabad-based drug maker asserting that it has submitted all data required for clearance.
