Mumbai: Gangster Iqbal Mirchi's family declared fugitive economic offenders, says officials

A special court in Mumbai on Friday (February 26) declared three family members of late gangster Iqbal Mirchi as 'fugitive economic offenders' under the provisions of a criminal law by the same name, official sources said. Those charged include Mirchi's wife Hajra Memon and sons Junaid Memon and Asif Memon.

President gives assent to law deterring economic offenders from fleeing India

President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to a law that will deter fugitive economic offenders to evade legal process in India and flee the country. A fugitive economic offender is any individual against whom warrants for arrest is issued for his involvement in select economic offences involving amount of at least Rs 100 crore or more and has left India so as to avoid criminal prosecution.
