Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, the government on Sunday (February 21) announced that Amravati district in Maharashtra will be placed under lockdown for a week. Cabinet Minister Yashomati Thakur said in the announcement that the lockdown will kick in from Monday evening.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday (February 20) sealed over 1305 buildings in Mumbai, after 2749 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the city. "A total of 1305 buildings were sealed in Mumbai after 2749 COVID-19 cases were reported. 71,838 households reside in these sealed buildings," BMC said.

Coronavirus COVID-19 cases cross 8000 in Maharashtra; 440 new cases reported

As India continues to battle coronavirus pandemic, the number of cases in Maharashtra rose to 8,068 on Monday (April 27, 2020)  which includes 342 fatalities. 440 new cases and 19 new deaths were reported in the state between Sunday evening to Monday morning.
